The unbelievable vastness and beauty of Kluane National Park

Kluane National Park is located in the lower southwestern corner of the Yukon Territory, with an area covering around 22.000 square kilometers of vast wilderness. It’s landscape is filled with glaciers and mountains, which overlap far into neighboring Alaska on the west and southwest side. Among the mountains is Canada’s highest peak, Mt. Logan, rising a stunning 5959 m above sea level.

Derived from the native word Łù’àn, meaning “big fish”, Kluane lies within the traditional territories of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations and Kluane First Nation who have a long history of living in this region. For thousands of years they have been the true masters of hunting, gathering and traveling in this land of extremes.

Home to a wide variety of plant and wildlife species, over 100 species of bird can be found here and dozens of bigger and smaller mammals live here, including caribou, black bear, wolverine, marmot and beaver. The countless lakes and streams are abound with fish species like lake trout and pike.

All this means Kluane is a true backpackers paradise. It offers many backpacking possibilities: from short 1 night trips to extended trekking deep into the wilderness, and from following hiking trails to having to navigate yourself and explore your own way.

Wildtrack Expeditions offers backpacking trips for all levels: for people who love hiking and camping but have never tried an overnight hike, to experienced wanderers who would like to take it to the next step, or simply for the traveler who likes the comfort of an organized tour.

Our backpacking tours include the use of camping equipment, like a tent and camp cooking gear, as well as food and National Park camping fees. All you need to bring are some more personal essentials like good hiking shoes, clothing and a few other things. If needed some items can be rented from us.
